Famous Artwork Inspiration

I loved this the moment I got it. I had a lot of fun and would love to do it again. I like the highlights in the tears and how uniform the dots ended up. My only complaint is the unsteady black lines.

Character Design

Final Design Proposal

Ashenputtel
In the source material of Ashenputtel the step-mother takes away her clothes and has her wear an “old grey frock, and gave her wooden clogs”. They called her Ashenputtel because she slept by the fireplace and “she always looked dusty and dirty” When she went to the festival she had a few different beautiful costumes she would wear included a dress with “a pair of slippers embroidered with silk and silver”. Every time she changed no one recognized her because she was “so beautiful in her golden dress” The final gown she wore was so extravagant that “the slippers were entirely of gold”. And when she left behind a slipper and it was found by the Prince he described it as “small and dainty, and entirely made of gold”. When the Prince inquired if Ashenputtel was the beautiful Maiden he danced with her father commented that it couldn’t be her because his daughter was “a puny, stunted drudge”

Design 1: Tragic Ashley
The setting of this story is modern day in an average place in an average city. The young girl named Ashley loses her mother. Her windowed father, who she was never very close with, remarried a wealthy woman who had two girls around the same age as Ashley. Ashley’s stepsisters always teased her and mocked her, throwing ashes from the fireplace on her shouting “Ashes for ASHley!” The step mother was cruel to her and sold all of her possession and gave her dirty ill-fitting clothes. When she would tell her father of their cruelty he would accuse her of lying and hit her and send her away with no food. As a result of this abuse she became malnourished and bruised, often never leaving the dirty basement in shame. This went on until no one in the house noticed her at all; day after day no one spoke to her. The ending to this story is that Ashley actually died one night in the basement from neglect and her step mother buried the body in the garden. Ashley getting freed from her abusers by joining her mother in heaven and her family get found out for the murder and get their punishment.
I will be creating the Ashley right before she dies, malnourished, dirty, and bruised. I will be contouring with highlight and shadow to create a thinner face as well as using a palate of color to create some bruising. With some latex and coloring I will add a scar or two. And using eyeshadow I will create the dirty ash marks on her face. Taking from the source text of Ashenputtel being “a puny stunted drudge” I want to make her petite looking and to take it a step further I want to make her scary thin. I want to emphasize the abuse she’s going through by adding bruises and the look of neglect. I also of course want to literally have her face dirty with ash.

Design 2: Vengeful Ella

This is set in the distant future where cybernetics are being used by the military to win the war. Unknown to the general public most of these cyber solders are actually young men and women that were kidnapped and forced to undergo the painful procedure of implanting cybernetic ‘upgrades’. Ella, a young girl living with her step-mother and two step-sisters after the brutal death of both her parents in the war, is one such youth. She was kidnapped from her home one night when she was locked out of the house and slept in the open garage. Her life with her step-family was abusive and cruel and because of the pain involved in her life an unexpected complication arose during the implantation of the cybernetics. She escaped with new found anger and violence in her heart. So she returns to her step-family to exact revenge.
She is just a normal girl, a little unkempt. The cybernetics they added to her face was a new eye. The areas around the cybernetics are raw, red, and bloody from the implantation. At the jaw line there is also wires from the unfinished procedure. I will also be doing corrective makeup on the rest of her face to make her traditionally beautiful. I will be using latex to add depth to the implantation. By making her normal face traditionally pretty, I want it to be juxtaposition between the traditional princess Cinderella and the revenge stricken weapon she has become.

Gender Swap

This was very difficult. I felt like I kept going over the same areas and I still feel like I could have done more.
